About CS in National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University

NCTU started Taiwan’s earliest computer research program in 1960, and founded the first Computer Science and Information Engineering (CSIE) Department in 1970. In the following year, the department developed the first indigenous mini-computer system. Then, in 1980, the department gave birth to a new Computer and Information Science (CIS) Department dedicated to the more theoretical pursues in computer science. Together, the two departments surpassed similar departments in the country by attaining a long list of distinguished achievements. For example, the two departments were ranked the 23nd worldwide in the amount of ESI academic publication about computer science throughout the past decade and then in 2005, moved up to rank number two worldwide in software engineering research publication; they also possess the largest numbers of highly-cited papers, the highest SCI paper count per faculty member, the most IEEE/ACM/AAAS/IET/IAPR fellows and the most national and international award winners.
